Visiting Malhamdale – Explore local history in the landscape and people

Yorkshire Dales National Park

The townships/ villages of Malhamdale fall very largely within the Yorkshire Dales National Park (YDNP) . Visitors will therefore find it useful to make use of their services; the website, publications and the Malham visitor centre.

Using an Ordnance Survey map (code OL2) of the area will greatly add to your enjoyment and ability to find places and understand the landscape. In addition, visitors may find it useful to have a copy of Open Street Map installed on their mobile phone with a downloaded copy of the North of England map downloaded (full broadband required not 4G). This is free and features many details not on O.S. maps and will work out of mobile phone signal range.

Old Middle House Farm on Malham Moor – site of Viking settlement. Park car at Street Gate (no car park but plenty of verge space), walk north on bridleway; check weather forecast, can be severe. And while you are parked there, why not walk east along the old droving road, Mastiles Lane and take a look at the remains of the Roman marching camp.
