Malhamdale People Finder – Excel spreadsheet to search. Columns are:
Surname, firstname, birth-year, place of birth, census-year.
Whether you are looking for lost relatives from your family tree or are just interested in the names of the people who have lived in Malhamdale, you should find this database interesting, as it contains an extensive list of those who were reported to have been born in Malhamdale or have lived there at the time of the various census enumerations.
Many people have lived in the Dale, some stopping only briefly and this database contains nearly 10,000 names and provides information on where all those people with Malhamdale connections were living at the time of the 1841-1911 census enumerations, whether in the Dale or elsewhere.
The 1911 entries provide the Registration District the people are living in, NOT the actual Town or Village.
Notes on searching : The database is as complete as possible, but is subject to some errors. You may find some people missing or extras included from elsewhere. For instance Calton, Carlton and Carleton were used interchangeably as spellings, so it isn’t possible to discern if a person was from the Dale’s own Calton, Carleton in Craven or one of several other “Carltons” in Yorkshire.
As the 1841 census didn’t include the information about where people were born, the database only includes those living in Malhamdale in 1841 and NOT those who had moved away from the Dale but were born there.
