Malhamdale Archive index – Malhamdale general

Malhamdale Local History Group Archive Index

This catalogue contains only brief details of the archive holdings of the Malhamdale Local History Group and new items are added fairly regularly. In addition to this physical archive we have a “Digital Archive” of material held on computer, but as yet there is no index to this material. If you wish, you can download the latest version of the physical archive catalogue as an Excel spreadsheet, this can be used with any database or spreadsheet program such as MS Excel.

Searching the Index – there are no built-in search tools in this version of the website

The archives are not generally accessible to either Malhamdale Local History Group members or the public except by appointment. The physical archives are held in Kirkby Malham Parish Hall in the Walter Morrison Room upstairs, in secure archival quality storage facilities. If you wish to know more about the content of, or view any particular document, please contact the archivist who has extensive local knowledge and knowledge of the archive contents, (Mr. Robin Bundy as of 2023) via the MLHG Chairperson at mlhgenquiries@gmail.com . The archives consist of a wide variety of documents ranging from old postcards, newspaper clippings to catalogues and pamphlets through to group photographs, vellum Tudor wills and family bibles. Please note, large items such as family bibles are actually stored on long-loan at The Folly Museum in Settle. Please quote the Record ID and the Location reference if possible when making enquiries.

Please note that MLHG is always on the lookout for further contents for the archive if you have anything relevant to the history of people or places in Malhamdale or its environs. We have regular searches for relevant documents on Ebay and manage to acquire relevant old postcards and other documents.
