Recent Additions to the Archive & Access Information

The MLHG archive room at Kirkby Malham Parish Hall has been fully refurbished and insulated during 2024 to make it comfortable to sit and read material from the archive or to use the room as a small meeting room. This is following a substantial grant from the North Yorkshire Council ‘Sustainable Development’ fund and great thanks are due to Mrs. Joyce Thacker for successful application to this and other funds. The room is situated on the first floor up a fairly steep staircase so disabled access is limited. Toilets and washroom are also fully modernised and are adjacent to the archive room. The archive room , now named as ‘The Walter Morrison Room’ is fully carpeted and comfortable with a set of central tables and surrounding chairs to allow laying out of archive material for perusal. The archive documents are stored in locked steel cabinets in archive quality plastic wallets and boxes, being categorised under ‘townships / parishes’ or in some cases under ‘family collections’. Documents are labelled with their index numbers as listed on the archive spreadsheet, see download link below.

Any queries about items in the physical archive should be made via email to mlhgenquiries@gmail.com. We can then make arrangements for items to be viewed in person or we may be able to provide you with copies via email.
